Cruising and Travel

CruisingPreamble:

I started this blog way back in 2009. The intentions were good. I wanted to create a blog that allowed for guests to enjoy virtual cruising, long after their cruise was over and for those who had never cruised before, to get some insights. Like I said, it was a nice idea but a busy and distracted life got in the way. A lot has changed since I first got writing on this blog. For the moment, I am landbased, working on my travel business. So are my CD days over? Well, I have been off ships for a couple of years but I have a sneaky suspicion it won’t be for much longer.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            So, after a few redo’s, I figured I’d give it another shot and try and get this really going. I want to help you make great decisions about your cruises and give you any tips and insights that I may have as a cruise director. I will also add some breakfast shows from the ships that I had promised and some anecdotes and fun things along the way. So, here goes…starting with one of my original pages that explained my ‘good intentions’                                                                                                                                                         Thanks for visiting…let’s see how we do…

Ah, my first venture into cyberspace. I feel like the belated virgin. Everyone’s been doing it and I was just watching – from the sidelines. Ooooh, is that a belated virgin voyeur? Hmm. Weird, not like I’m a technophobe but it just seemed too intense to open a blog all by myself. Hah! Guess, life ain’t so tough until you try it, right?

So, who am I and why am I writing a blog? My name is Rob Wheatley, I am a Cruise Director who spends his time sailing the seven seas aboard luxury cruise ships and hopefully keeping guests happy and entertained.

So, why the Blog? So many great people I meet in my work come and go and during that time, at warp speed, you get to know them like good friend – sometimes even more profound than that! Then they leave and new guests board. I lose touch with them and they with me. So, one fine sunny day, out on deck, a guest suggested I do a Blog – a way that guests and wannabe cruisers can come together and virtuallycruise each day; enjoying the ports, the on board TV morning show I broadcast around the ship each day (I intend to try an upload this to the Blog each day or at least a few times a week)  and just have viewers/readers feel involved. I also intend to upload photographs and offer some commentary about the destinations and what i would personally recommend to do, to see and to experience. Also, having been in the business for 10 years I have a wealth of knowledge I would like to share with potential cruisers to make sure that they get the most out of their cruise vacation.

The idea seemed a “bit out there” but the more I thought about it – (vacation time has a way of vacuming the head and allowing space for crazy ideas) I thought it might be a nice idea. So, here I am…in Internet Land ready to start cruising with anyone who wants to come along for the cruise!

Right now I’m on vacation at home in Umhlangha, South Africa; a coastal resort just outside of Durban. I’m getting ready for my new contract – a season out in the Baltics – first stop Stockholm, Sweden where I will start my new adventure.

And what do I hope to achieve with this Blog? Well, as time goes by, it’s my hope to amuse, entertain, inform and educate anyone who wants to spend a bit of fun time with me, my shipmates and my guests in Cyberspace

So, that’s the plan….watch this space…oh, and Welcome Aboard!!!
